the Challenge

This year's REPLAY challenge is to find a way to get people more active and solve a problem about human health.(including exercise)

The problem

This year, since the challenge was to solve a problem in our community about human health and fitness , we decided to focus on inactivity in our society.

Click on the button below to see the google document that says how we decided what problems to focus on specifically.

In the google document we wrote down a lot of problems on the first page and tried to find what they were all doing (ex: too bored -> MOTIVATION), thus highlighting them accordingly. We then rewrote our list in a more organized way and voted. We then found the three main problems we wanted to focus on:

1 .Some kids have disabilities that don’t let them do certain activities - A problem with Motivation

2. Some kids don’t have enough space to exercise especially in a apartment or small house - A problem with Issues Dealing With Indoor/Outdoor Space

3. Kids spend way to too much time on screens - A problem with Motivation

The Solution

After a lot of discussing, debating, and idea-merging, we ended up with a card-game idea.

We thought, "We need exercises to put on the cards!"

And that we did!

We came up with and found a bunch of exercises, added to points to each, and started a google spreadsheet to test how good they worked.

In the google sheet, we had a calendar kind of thing where we inputted our scores over the course of a few weeks.

In the spreadsheet, you probably noticed that we gradually stopped exercising in around the second-to-third week. Well, We then thought, "We need to add more MOTIVATION to our solutions so people would do our solutions!"

So we began to think about ways to motivate people, and we thought about posters and other things. We wanted to do notifications somehow, and then, >💡< , the idea of an APP arose. So now we had two ideas, a card game, and an app. As we were refining these ideas, we thought of a board game, but soon abandoned the idea. We also thought of a box delivery service and decide to also work on it. Although, later we came back to the board game and we had decided to continue to refine it as well. Now we had another problem.

"What exactly is our solution?"

With four solutions, we had all gotten a bit confused. And as if it wasn't confusing enough, we all had different perspectives on how the card game was played!

So we all got together and wrote "in stone" what we were going to present(technically we did it on paper but that doesn't matter). We then decided that we would go with: (Listed below are not official names)

  • Card Game

  • App

  • Box Delivery Service

  • Board Game

And we decided to have multiple ways to play the card game, so we also wrote on another "stone tablet"(a.k.a. paper) how we wanted to play the game! Those ways were; (Listed below are not official names)

  • Simple

  • Uno

  • Uno with Timer

  • Categories

We presented to:

  • physical therapists

  • a trainer from camp gladiator

  • software developers

  • and the Mayor's Fitness Council

Woo-Hoo!!! We did it! We have our four solutions!

Below we have all of our solutions in depth...

Wolf Workouts (card game)

Wolf workouts is a card game with many ways to play! Here are the cards!

FRONT SIDE

As you can see...

  • It has a white border.

  • And a nice design on the front!

BACK SIDE

As you can see...

  • It has a white border.

  • A number on the top left corner (1-6) (used for certain games)

  • And its body contains an exercise.

HOW TO PLAY:

The first way to play is The simple Game (Simple):

You just draw card from top of DRAW deck (deck with cards front-side-up)

The second way to play is Wolf One (Uno):

You give each player 8 cards and put the rest of the cards in the center as the draw pile.

Then start with the youngest and go clockwise. Each person places down a card and you must complete your activity. You must perform the fitness activity on the card that you put down.

But to place down down the card, it has to be either the same color, or number in the top left corner.

If you cannot place any card down, you have to keep drawing from the draw pile until you have a match.

when the draw pile is finished, you can take the top card and flip over the rest of the deck to be the draw pile.

Beware: Your friends could give you more cards...

When you only have one card left you must say “discover” or else you have to get two more cards.

The objective is to get rid of all your cards to WIN!

The third way to play is Wolf Two (Uno with timer):

It is technically Wolf One but with a timer so you have to do the exercise before the sand timer ends or your turn is automatically finished.

The fourth way to play is Categories (categories):

You sort the cards into decks by number (all cards with a 1 in top left corner go in 1 deck) and leave the cards without a number in top left corner aside.

You roll the dice(singular) and whatever number you get you draw from the pile!

You don't have to play only with the ways we have given?

You can play how ever you want!

APP (App)

Our app gives you exercises in a digital way!

The app has many feature:

  • a sign-in option to optimize your experience

  • gives you exercises in two ways; with scheduled notifications and/or when you open the app and click EXERCISE button

  • ranking and points

  • friendship features with other accounts

  • warm-ups and cool-down stretches

  • brain teasers

  • helpful resources for those new to names like burpees and bicep-curls

  • difficulty levels

Fit-opoly (boardgame)

This board game is like monopoly but with an activity twist!

you roll the dice to move your character around the board at each stop you have a competition with your friends (ex: who can hold a plank the longest?)

If you win the competition you get a streak point. If you win three consecutive times, you get a home kit.

When you get your home kit, you put it on your lot. When you have three home kits, you get a gym and put it where you would put your home kits.

And when you have three gyms, you get a Sports Complex, and put it where you would put your home kits and gyms. Discard any pawns converted to anything else and you have to automatically convert.(ex: you have two home kits, and you have two streak points. You win another streak point and you get a third home kit. You have to automatically discard your three home kits and grab a gym.)

Afterwards play passes to next player clockwise. Everyone starts at GO and every time someone passes they get 2 FitBucks.

You can cash in 5 FitBucks to get a home kit.

First to have a Sports Complex wins!!!
